My books and Charles' books are almost completely seperate. My books are too good for his books (or too bad - I have some really trashy books that I don't allow out in public). His books go in his man-cave, or on his side of the bed. My books are on my bookshelf and on my desk. Very territorial, our books are. They are the books of only children and they don't like to share.

Why is it that your posts and articles always make me start examining the way I do things? It's why I keep coming back - well, not the only reason.

What a great post. I vaguely arrange my books by color, but that's just because it satisfies my neurotic organizing tendencies without some elaborate author/genre system that would only annoy me more in the long run. But I have the same experience, in that no matter how many books I accumulate or how I arrange them, I have never lost one, or not been able to find what I was looking for. I think you're onto something.

I love this idea. It's somehow calming. Like you trust that the books will give you what you need when you need it.
When I had a bookshelf when I wasn't a traveling gypsy, I arranged it by type...vaguely. But my bf has no books except a few business books, biographies and football books, so I'm assuming once we settle down in some country...in like 5 years...I'll get to decide! How exciting. What are you reading now?
