I snared my agent by - quite literally - grabbing him on the first page. WIth so many ms coming in a week you have to stand out from the crowd so I gave my name an odd spelling, got a celebrity endorsement and wrote the very very best piece of prose I could for Page 1. It worked for me. Passion, thought, honesty. They shine through your writing and that will catch someone's eye.
